This hike has been done on 18th May 2019

The trail starts just outside of Aschau am Chiemgau, at the parking area for Maisalm (kostenlos!). From there, we followed the forest way up to the Maisalm hut. Once passed the hut, after few hundred meters we met a statue of St. Mary, signalling the start of the trail in the forest. This is the hardest part of the hike, but even so, it was pretty easy to face.

The trail continues till we reached a plateaux, where we turned right towards the Steinlingalm hut. Hints of the bad weather of last weeks were still visible, with a lot of snow still around. To avoid injuries, we decided to climb up the south face of the Sulten peak, before finally reaching the hut.

From the hut, in theory we were supposed to aim for the Kampenwand Eastern peak. Although, the presence of the snow discouraged us to face the short Klettersteig (via ferrata) to climb the peak. Instead, we decided to reward ourself with a refreshing radler and a piece of cheesecake at the hut 🙂

After the little break, we came down from the forest way, till reaching the crossing with the Reitweg trail that we followed until reaching back the valley.
We promised ourselves to come back again this summer with no snow, and attack finally the peak!
Bis nächste Mal! Tschüs!
