Back in Germany! To not lose the good habit of visiting the mountains, I decided to join a Hiking Buddies event. Our destinations were two of the nicest mountains the Bavarian Forealps: the Herzogstand and the Heimgarten.
We took the train in the morning from Munich central station to Kochel, and from that the bus to the Walchensee talstation, where the trail starts.

We decided to not do the standard path to Herzogstand from here, but to take a shortcut through a steep climb in the forest. Eventually, the shortcut rejoins with the path that we followed up to the Berggasthaus Herzogstand (1575m).

From the hut we continued towards the first of the two peak in program for the day: the Herzogstand. Once there, we took our group picture and stopped for lunch break, before departing for the Heimgarten peak.

The two peaks are connected by a ridge, which is the highlight of this hike. It is nothing too scary, but firm foots are definitively needed. Hiking the ridge required about one hour at a good pace. Once at Heimgarten, we stopped at a the cozy hut for a refreshing radler before starting to walk down to Ohlstadt.

The way down passed through some forest and, after about two hours, we found ourselves surrounded by the farms of Ohlstadt. From there, we took the train back to Munich, concluding a very nice day of hiking.
Stay tuned for more hike reports!
Ciao!
