This hike has been completed on 1st September 2019 according to the Caminosantiago.gal description.
Final leg of our trip to Santiago de Compostela, from Arzua to the Santiago airport to pick up my luggage. This part of the Camino del Norte is shared with the main French Way, resulting in many more people and a lot of bars/restaurants along the way. Personally, I liked most the previous days, which gave in my opinion a more authentic experience of the Camino.
Anyway, a major advantage of being on the main way was that the path here goes mostly on trails, definitively good news for our feet. The trail through the forest is interrupted now and then by some private Albergue or restaurants, if you want to take a rest or even split the journey on multiple days.
Eventually, we walked out of the forest emerging in the little pretty village of Santa Irene, also full of places to refresh yourself. From there, a few more kilometres, and we find ourselves in the town of O Pedrouzo, where the suggested leg should finish. However, being only ten kilometres away from the airport, we preferred to continue and just to stop in Pedrouzo for our Empanadas lunch break. If you rather stay in Pedrouzo, the public Albergue is just at the entrance of the town.
From the town centre, we followed the yellow arrows back to the Camino (the way is norther of the town, many people get lost here). The path goes back into the woods and continues till reaching the airport area.
The Camino literally goes around the airport, turning in a sandy terrain for the last parts. Eventually, we arrived at the 10 km signal, where we abandoned the Camino for the pathway to the airport.
Unfortunately, we had to skip the remaining 10k, and took the bus to arrive in Santiago. Anyway, we really enjoyed these few days along the Camino, and we promised ourselves to come back one day, maybe for the more remote Camino Primitivo.
We hope you enjoyed our report. Follow us for more hiking adventures!
