Short Halloween hike! On the 31st of October, we decided to climb up one of the well-known peaks in the Bavarian Prealps, the Breitenstein. We parked our car at the big parking lot in Fischbachau (5 euros for the day, go there before 9 am since it fills quickly), and followed the directions for the Breitenstein.
The path goes first on the Teerstraße, turning later into a forest road. After about 30 minutes we reached a junction, where we turned left in the direction of the Bucheralm hut, following a nice rooty trail into the forest.
After another 30 minutes, we came out of the forest and reached the Bucheralm, getting the first view of the Bockstein peak on our right. The trail becomes here rockier, going aside from the mountains on a wide path. Eventually, we reached the plateau after 40 minutes, where we turned left to get some pictures of the Bockstein peak. Then, we came down again to the plateau and continued for the Breitenstein, which is only 5 minutes away.
Satisfied and hungry, we stopped for an early German lunch (it wasn't even midday!), with a view of the surrounding Bavarian Prealps. After lunch, we came down, passing by the little Hubertushütte, following the trail on the other side of the mountains.
The descent is significantly easier than the ascent since the mountain trail turns in a wide forest road once reached the large meadow overviewing the near Wendelstein peak (future destination?).
From the meadow, we followed the forest road for about 40 minutes, reconnecting to the outbound path at the junction for the Bucheralm. We covered back our steps and finally reached our car and completed this short and pleasant hike.
