German weather is quite unstable during this May, so we opted for an easy short hike to the close-by Brauneck peak. We drove from Munich to Lenggries, where we parked at the Ski school center, trailhead of the day.
The hike starts following the forstweg, aside the renowned Bavarian pastures, continuing then along the winter ski run. The path is indeed quite steep, but not particularly technical, being on a paved surface.
After about 45 minutes, we reached a large meadow where the Kotalm hut is located. From here, it is possible to reach other lower peaks, such as the Waxenstein. We continued on the main path, until reaching the large panorama restaurant. From there the peak is just few more meters away, and we reached it after about one and half hour from the trailhead.
The view from the Brauneck was remarkable, thanks to the bad weather of the previous days that whitened the surrounding mountains. From the peak we started our descent on the other side of the mountain, passing by quite a few huts, which we promised to pay back a visit in the future.
The descent is as easy as the ascent, going again on the forstweg up to the valley. To go back to our car, we had to eventually follow a path in a field, leading back to the Ski school area.
